Mónica Jasis
,
Hi! I’m Mónica Jasis. I founded Centro Mujeres in 1994 along with Teresa and Noemi. I am a general practitioner, with a masters in public health from San Diego State University and a post-masters in reproductive health policy research from the University of California, San Francisco.
I work in Centro Mujeres as the co-director in charge of the community health programs, addressing the empowerment of women and youth. I also develop research and monitoring projects for advocacy purposes. At Centro Mujeres, I apply my experience as a community trainer and my extensive experience as a public health researcher. The combination of both activities allows me to advocate effectively for the advancement of the women’s and youth’s rights agendas in our state and nation.
Teresa Shields
Hi, I’m one of the founders and co-director of Centro Mujeres. I’m originally from Seattle, WA, but have been living in La Paz for just about fourteen years. I’m responsible for the administrative side at Centro Mujeres, as well as for the coordination of community-based programs. I have over twenty-five years of experience in the not-for-profit sector and take pleasure from the challenges my work provides.
I especially enjoy working with teens and young people.

Carla Alvizo
Hello, my name is Carla, and I’ve worked at Centro Mujeres for four years as an administrative assistant to the co-directors.
I enjoy my work and take a lot of satisfaction from it. I take it seriously and consider it an important responsibility.

JÓVENES EN ACCIÓN

Advocates COPADO
Perla Noemi Estada Acevedo
Hi my name is Perla Noemi Estada Acevedo. I am 20 years old and I am the County liaison for Advocates COPADO. I work with youth groups in a variety of cities in the five different counties of our state through Advocates COPADO in order to form groups of young leaders interested in promoting reproductive and sexual rights of youth. This is done through public campaigns. If you are interested in information on topics related to sexuality or want to participate in a campaign you can send me an email through this site.
Paul Marcial Melo
Hi, My name is Paul Marcial Melo and I am at student in social work at the Universidad Internacional in La Paz and the general coordinator of Advocates COPADO. I am 22 years old. I began at Centro Mujeres in Advocates COPADO in their first leadership course for youth in summer 2002. After the training I formed part of the group that began the first awareness campaigns on reproductive and sexual rights for youth. I then moved into the position of Coordinator for Advocates COPADO where I stayed for two years. I then left for personal reasons but stayed in touch with the group and participated sporadically. This year I returned to the program to do my professional practice for the University. I feel that the group and the program have made important advances in Baja California Sur, especially in La Paz county. I am proud that in our community we are known as the “go to” group for questions relating to reproductive and sexual health of young people.

Citlalli Ojeda Pacheco
Hola! My name is Citlalli Ojeda Pacheco and I am 17 years old and a team member of Advocates COPADO. We are a group of young people that promote the reproductive and sexual rights of youth. We inform young people on contraceptives and related issues to try and prevent teen pregnancy. One of the advantages of our program is that if you come to Centro Mujeres we can clear up any doubts you may have on sexuality issues. We also have the emergency pill, free condoms, and lots of information!
Karen Meza Mesta
